WORKSHOPS SPECULATIVE WORK DANCE CLASSES

From the body to the cosmos – the vibration of dance culture

Moving makes energy flow throughout and between bodies, whether human or celestial. It is on this rhythm that life itself originated, cultures developed, things are born and pass away. We live in endless cycles or nonlinear time …

In this workshop we move from the physical body – from fascia, skin and bones – to get in touch with both the dense and subtle. We explore how inner energy is connected to the strength of the universe, and how we can draw connections between the micro and the macro, between past and future. We also explore how the somatics intersect with street and clubbing dance cultures. How history, politics and tradition influence contemporary and future dance and social movements, and how we can embody dance with a deep sense of context, pleasure and with respect for its ancestry and cultural connections.

A DJ will accompany the session, we will invoke ancestors and future beings. Together we explore dance as resistance, expression and future; connect personal movement with social and cultural roots, taking time and space as small and as wide as we can.

Intersecting somatics with Street & Clubbing dance cultures - ancestral future community building

This session explores how somatics intersect with street and clubbing dance cultures, tracing how history, politics, and heritage shape these movement forms. Through this awareness we can embody the shapes from a deep feeling of context. The Dj will guide the session bridging between dance styles and music, we’ll investigate dance as resistance, expression, and future-making—connecting personal movement with the deep social and cultural roots that continue to shape it.

Dance as a revolutionary spiritual & political tool - the clubbing scene from the context of african latino diaspora and lgbtqia+ community

The focus of our sharing is dance. To feel it first from the music and understand from the political and social context, tracing back to the possible origins and ancestral patterns of body language. We will focus on disco and house music going inside the birth and development, trying to feel the origins way before their official birth date, and, through the music, going on a journey through Waacking, House dance and Old Way Vogue.
It will be a music and movement journey, looking for the intuition of the body as a learning and connecting method. This is a lab and not a club, so the aim is to create awareness and perception of some whys and hows that can enhance the revolution and celebration done in the space-temple of clubbing. Also to create openness for the knowledge of the body and the power of dance as a cultural movement.

ENTANGLED URBAN NATURE: between gardens and wildness (Lisbon walk)

We will go into a sensorial and reflective walk through the city, starting at Gulbenkian (a garden designed in the 1960’s) passing through Jardim do Campo Grande (from XIX century), and ending at Horta da FCUL (a community project…) Along the way, we will explore how nature is intentionally designed and maintained within urban green spaces—and contrast that with the spontaneous presence of ruderal plants: those resilient species that thrive in neglected corners, cracks in the pavement, and edges of the city, often overlooked, yet deeply rooted in medicinal and ecological significance. This walk is not just a stroll—it's an embodied experience. We’ll integrate moments of movement, drawing, and meditation to connect more deeply with the landscape and with our own presence in it. By tuning into the subtle and often invisible layers of urban nature, we’ll reflect on how life persists and adapts in the midst of human structures.

The trees and the city: embodiment, cycles and history - Lisbon walks

The trees are the grandmothers, the elders, the grandfathers, the great great ancestors. They communicate, they create communities, they talk, they have their own love language. As other beings, they are non-human people.

Inside the city most of the human people pas by them without saying good morning or thank you. They tell stories, they hold us, they are here way before us. And inside a city space they also tell stories of displacement, of colonisation and forced migration. They also feel alone, they are very far away from what was their original space/place, they have knowledge that we forget to listen.

This walk is for us to reconnect, to listen, to feel that even inside a city space we live in diversity and we are all people.

To understanding the whys behind the form can be of immense value for grasping the dances that occupy us. To understand not only through knowing, but through feeling — both together.

Pressures and oppressions generate bodies.

Freedom and pleasure generate other bodies.

Struggle and resistance carry a weight.

Celebration and festivity carry another. We carry our ancestry when we absorb other ancestries, and full bodies become vast movements.
